Course Description:

Students will engage in hands-on, student-centered activities that will help them develop their own answers to the overarching essential question:

“What is happening to the atoms that make up our world to cause the changes we observe?”

Eating, drink, and chewing gum are not allowed.

Always be on time.

Grooming during class is not allowed

Listen.  No one else talks while Ms. Lewis is talking.

Enter class with all need materials.

Show respect to Ms. Lewis, your peers, and yourself.

 

General Information (Make-up Work, etc.)

Ø      All assignments are to be turned in at the beginning of class on the due date.

Ø      It is the responsibility of the student to make up any missed assignments within 3 days of his return to school.  The teacher will dispense make up assignments after school only, not during class time.  This includes homework, classwork, and any quizzes.

Ø      Each student is expected to come to class prepared to think and learn

Ø      Most assignments and a calendar of deadlines can be found on the website.

Journal Requirements

 

      Students will maintain a journal of short essays either in a 3-ring binder or a tablet or folder.   The short essay will be a reflection of the concepts and/or skills learned.  A daily journal prompt will be given.  The journal will be graded for completeness and thoroughness several times throughout the semester according to the provided rubric.

 

 

Portfolio Requirements

 

      Students will maintain a notebook of all their works in a 3 ring binder.  This includes daily warm ups, notes and performance assessments, lab reports, and homework assignments.  At the end of each subunit, students will choose three (3) of their best graded assignments to be placed in their portfolios.  Students will write reflections explaining why they chose those particular pieces. Also included for each subunit will be a lab activity.  The portfolio will be assessed according to a provided rubric.
